Size Classification (English-Bahasa), Source: Modern Nishikigoi - by Dr. Takeo Kuroki San, MD - Founder 0f Zen Nippon Airinkai

The size classification seems to vary from show to show. Size classification was first introduced by koi farmers in Niigata according to the annual growth of the koi, based on their long experience. 

<Class klasifikasi sangat bermacam-macam dari show yang satu ke show yang lain. Klasifikasi ini pertama kali diperkenalkan oleh para peternak koi di wilayah Niigata, berdasarkan akumulasi pengalaman yang lama>

1 Bu -- smaller than 18 cm (size 1 : 1 year old)

2 Bu -- between 18 - 36 cm (size 2 : 2 years old)

3 Bu -- betweem 36 - 48 cm (size 3: 3 years old)

4 Bu -- 48 cm and over (size 4 : older than 4 years)

Above classification was adopted by Oita Airinkai Show in 1962. As the time goes by, Airinkai expanded above classification into more classes:

1 Bu -- up to 18 cm

2 Bu -- up to 25 cm

3 Bu -- up to 35 cm

4 Bu -- up to 45 cm

5 Bu -- up to 55 cm

6 Bu -- up to 65 cm

7 Bu -- up to 75 cm

8 Bu -- 75 cm and over

From size 2 until size 7 is different by 10 cm between each class, the larger is the better. Therefore, koi in the same class, bigger koi will be more awarded.

<Mulai class 2 sampai dengan class 7 berbeda 10 cm untuk setiap class nya, semakin besar semakin bagus. Oleh karenanya, dalam class yang sama, koi yang ukurannya lebih besar akan lebih dihargai untuk menang>

Even, ZNA All Japan Nishikigoi Show adopted a five-centimeter incremental size classification, as follows:

15 Bu 15 cm and under 

20 Bu over 15 cm up to 20cm 

25 Bu over 20 cm up to 25 cm 

30 Bu over 25 cm up to 30 cm 

35 Bu over 30 cm up to 35 cm 

40 Bu over 35 cm up to 40 cm 

45 Bu over 40 cm up to 45 cm 

50 Bu over 45 cm up to 50 cm 

55 Bu over 50 cm up to 55 cm 

60 Bu over 55 cm up to 60 cm 

65 Bu over 60 cm up to 65 cm 

70 Bu over 65 cm up to 70 cm 

75 Bu over 70 cm up to 75 cm 

80 Bu over 75 cm up to 80 cm 

85 Bu over 80 cm up to 85 cm 

Over 85 Bu over 85 cm

Koi is measured from mouth top to tail end <panjangnya koi diukur mulai ujung mulut sampai dengan ujung ekor>
