Biological Filtration Chambers |
Since the pond filter is the most critical part of your filtration system, I personally prefer to discuss it in more detail. The filter media will be sequentially placed in your filter chambers, as follows:
Zeolite, must be exactly placed prior to the clean water chamber. Zeolite will absorb all residual ammonia that is very harmful for your koi so that your koi pond water will be free of this harmful waste which is produced from fish debris. Some hobbyists also even use carbon active in an attempt to make sure that there is no residual ammonia or any chemical left, back to the pond.
Bio Balls, are used as the biological media for your filter. They are really simple to use by placing it into a mesh bag and drop into the pond filter. Do not clean the bioballs once they are cycled, or you will risk killing off all the beneficial bacteria that you need to filter your water. You, therefore, must placed the bio ball before the Zeolite chamber, the beneficial bacteria breaks down and consumes organic matter that algae needs to live on, so if the organic matter and sludge are reduced then the algae is reduced as well.
Filter brushes, are usually used as a mechanical filter, placed before the biological stages or after the dirty water chamber in your filtration system. When used as a koi pond filter media, filter brushes are very good at filtering out solids such as leaves, fish waste and string algae.
Rock, can be placed in between, after the filter brushes chamber and before the bio ball chamber. Rock is porous and can initially provide a reasonable amount of additional surface area, the coarseness and small opening sizes tend to hold on to passing-by debris.
In conclusion:
No matter how good of your filtration system is, the water clarity of your new pond can not be as clear as glass if the beneficial bacteria inside your filtration chamber has not been working well. At least, it takes 1 (one) month in order the beneficial bacteria start working well, but the clear water can only be achieved after for more than 4 (four) months. You therefore need to put some cheap koi into your pond as for trial purpose to produce waste, which is beneficial to stimulate the growth of the beneficial bacteria.
JANGAN DILANGGAR !!
