Tips of How to Choose Asagi-Shusui Group


Asagi
Asagi has a similar appearance to Magoi and even some beginners perceive that Asagi is not sort of nishikigoi. There are originally three types of Magoi : (a) Tetsu <iron> Magoi, (b) Doro <mud> Magoi , (c) Asagi Magoi. 

Asagi Magoi was perceived as the ancestor of present Asagi. Asagi is classified into 2 basic types:

(1) "Konjo Asagi", its back color is dark blue;
(2) "Narumi Asagi", its sclaes has dark blue centre and gradation into light blue toward the edges

Good pattern Asagi has the following requirements:
(a) Light blue and spotless head is more desirable; (b) Blue scale on the back should be clearly seen; (c) Reticular pattern should be sharp, distinct and be contrast; (d) Red <Hi> color should appear on its cheeks, abdominal region and fin joints (called "shusui bire"); (e) Having bright red color; (f) Between blue and red color should be clearly divided; (g) Abdomen should be milky white.
Also there are some beautiful variety of Asagi: (1) "Akebi Asagi" or called Mizu Asagi - is a light blue koi; (2) "Taki Asagi"  - Asagi, which has a white band between the blue back and red abdomen; (3) "Asagi Sanshoku" - is a blue back Asagi with red marking on the head and sides region and milky white abdomen. Shusui
Shusui is a doitsu type of Asagi with a clear blue scales along the dorsal ridge. The sharpness of deep blue scales neatly aligned on both sides of dorsal fin is most desirable.
